TWO IN THE WAVE

directed by Emmanuel Laurent & Antoine de Baecque

The French New Wave sparked an extraordinary regeneration of world cinema. It was the first movement in movie making to have stylized, in the fleeting present, the world in which its contemporaries lived. Archives allow us to understand this mutation of cinema, those technical innovations that took filmmaking by storm. And we now know the extent of the political, social and aesthetic influence the movement had around the world up to this day.Generation New Wave will use the abundant existing visual and audio archives, today accessible in large numbers, many of which having never been seen before. François Truffaut was the leading figure, the young "Turk" who opened the first breach in the system, through which he helped his comrades in. His close friend Jean-Luc Godard quickly became the one to ignite endless scandals. Their friendship from the early years at the Cahiers du Cinéma as critics to their first films —often interpreted by the same Jean-Pierre Léaud— and the definitive bitter break up of 1973, will be the axis around which our film will evolve.
